Daily press MARKET
The Daily Press is published in Newport News, Virginia, the largest city on the Peninsula side of Hampton Roads. Home to half a million people, the area is rich in colonial history, tourism and tidal shoreline. All military branches are heavily represented here. At the heart of it all is the Harbor, one of the largest shipyards in the world and home to Northrop Grumman Newport News, America’s sole maker of nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, and Hampton Roads’ largest private employer. Most cities and counties along the Peninsula are experiencing growth – with current populations in the DMA as follows:
Newport News / Hampton 243,170
Williamsburg / James City Co. 59,747
Poquoson / York Co. 57,689
Gloucester / Mathews Co. 36,642
Isle of Wight / Surry 32,101
HAMPTON ROADS’ ECONOMY IS STRONG
- Taxable retail sales in the DMA totaled more than $19 billion
- Tourism and hotel revenues are over $3.5 billion and growing
